I am a Level lll Advanced Chess Coach with the United States Chess Federation and as of 2015, I am the highest rated chess coach in Las Cruces, N.M. I have been a member of the USCF since 2011 and currently ranked in the 86 percentile in the country. I learned how to play chess when I was 7 years old. My father's love for chess inspired me to develop this same passion for the game. I have played in 19 tournaments with 67 rated games. My most memorable tournament Is when I participated in the Heart of the Desert open, Where I received three titles, Best under 1600, biggest upset, and first place.

I have coached teams that have taken 1st place in the K-6 state championships, 2nd place in the K-3 state championships, and 2nd place in El Paso's first rated scholastic tournament.  While playing as a team, we have always placed top 3 in competitions. Individually, I've coached four students that are included in the top 25 female chess players in New Mexico. All four girls were in elementary school when they made this prestigious list. I have also had the pleasure of coaching a student who is ranked #1 in Southern New Mexico and 3rd in the State for 1st graders. All students who have continued receiving chess instruction through the Las Cruces Chess Academy have improved their national ranking with each passing tournament.

The Las Cruces Chess Academy was established in January 2013. After attending the Tucson Open, I was impressed with the amount of children playing, analyzing, and going over strategies for the K-5 Tucson Championship. My wife, who has taught in the Las Cruces Public Schools for ten years now, encouraged me to develop a curriculum where students could advance their critical thinking skills, improve their reading and math skills, and at the same time have fun through playing chess. We incorporated her knowledge about effective strategies for teaching children and my chess expertise and created the Las Cruces Chess Academy.
